Dr. Todd Cartmell addresses four parenting tools – talking, connecting, encouraging, and leading. Parents often don’t have a plan for how they want to address and change the behavior of their child. Todd recommends a 3-step process of (1) teaching, (2) turn on, and (3) turn off. Teaching involves practice where you actually role-play desired behavior with your kids. Turning on means affirming and encouraging them when they behave well, and turning off means correcting misbehavior.

Dr. Cartmell shares several examples from his counseling practice about how he helped parents think differently about challenges they face with their children, and how a few simple changes transformed their parent-child interactions.
